Foreword by Ian Thompson, Editor
Today we’re exploring Mass Timber Projects, this time the rebuild of Ellis Golf Course clubhouse. This is a quick insight into the beauty and presence that the mass timber structure brings to the interior, and why I always consider mass timber for all our design and build projects.
Mass Timber Projects – Embracing Nature at the Ellis Golf Course Clubhouse
Video Transcript
When a 2020 windstorm destroyed the clubhouse on this 120-year-old municipal golf course, it opened the door for a new gathering space that would better serve the community. In a tribute to the trees lost, OPN Architects chose to prominently feature wood in their design.
The new ADA accessible clubhouse is organized around a broad continuous porch created by a single slope roof that forms an overhang covering the patio. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the pro shop, concessions area, and event space allow golfers to look onto the course, and the building’s orientation allows it to capitalize on views of the beautiful 18th hole and pond.
Thank you to our funding partners, our sustaining partners, and our market development partners. Congratulations to all the 2023 WoodWorks Wood Design Award winners.
